Several internationals who attended last week's Innovation Camp were invited to the Copenhagen Opera House after Thursday's commemoration ceremony. Not only did the innovators get to enjoy one of Copenhagen's classiest events, but they also got to see the queen! (Too bad no cameras were allowed inside).

The Opera performed Verdi's "Nabucco." Luckily for students from Italy, the opera was sung in Italian!

Discovering downtown jazz

Even though the best jazz houses often leave your wallet a lot lighter there are still ways for fans to experience the best.

The grandfather of Danish jazz

It’s not a coincidence that the Copenhagen Jazz Festival is one of the most visited in Europe, the style has a long history in Denmark. First crossing the Atlantic in the 1920's it remained an underground trend until the early 1960's with the creation of the Jazzhus Montmartre.

If you have never had the chance to experience classical music for yourself this is the perfect opportunity, with two hours of free concert.

And a helpful intermission will let you decide whether to stay or not.

Founded in 1867 the prestigious Royal Danish Academy of Music, is the oldest academy in Denmark. Every week a range of concerts are presented to spectators in a splendid concert hall called Studiescenen, where a black Steinway & Sons piano dominates the middle of the stage.

Preview: Majestic folk music at Studenterhuset

The student bar Studenterhuset is no longer just a secret place for international students in Copenhagen: The student card gives free access every Wednesday evening to the International Nights, mostly for international students, where a resident DJ juggles with current commercial hits, and types of music you can easily dance to.

However, the student bar also hosts numerous concerts with artists more or less renowned from pop, rock and folk. Thursday 2 February, the English singer-songwriter Simon Finn will honour us with his presence for only DKK 80.

Jam sessions in off beat locations

That rusty bridge or that dungy tunnel you pass everyday on your daily commute might be the just perfect place for a session, thinks Austrian student Michael Luger of the award winning music video collective ‘They Shoot Music - Don’t They’.

But it’s not make-out sessions that we are talking about here. We’re talking out of the ordinary musical sessions.

Luger explains: »We take bands off the stage and place them in unfamiliar settings.« The look? »Rough, spontaneous and improvisational music videos« .
