DHL results: Food economists blast to victory

Food economists from the Institute of Food and Resource Economics, FOI 1, were the fastest university team, outsprinting ChemBiol 3 by only 14 seconds.

The food economists thereby vindicate last year’s win, which has since been rocked with controversy and allegations after the team was disclosed to have got an eight-minute head start.

Runners up to the winning FOI 1 in second and third place were, if anything, even more remarkable.

Girl power

Second place finisher ChemBiol 3 competed in the four-man, one-woman category.

Medals, trophy and speeches for DHL runners

It was no time for modesty. As four teams of staff and students lined up to get their University of Copenhagen DHL medals and trophies, the talk among participants was all about times and how to defend titles come next year.

The University of Copenhagen fielded 2160 participants and 428 teams at this year’s DHL relay. All competing for their department’s bragging rights. The DHL relay is considered the largest fun-run in Northern-Europe, some say the world, with 100,000 participants over five days.

Pharma team reveals winning DHL strategy

As 2,100 University of Copenhagen staff and students exchange war stories after Monday night’s DHL showdown, they would do well to heed the advice of the fastest runner on the fastest University team.

Niels Grøn Nørager, a PhD student at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry is good for a 15:06 five kilometres, and runs between 80 and 90 kilometres a week in training. As the fastest runner on the team, he ran two legs at the race on Monday evening.

The world's largest fun run, the DHL-relay, was for the University of Copenhagen staff and students on Monday evening. Almost traditionally it was pouring with rain. All the more fun. The University of Copenhagen were easily recognisable in their green T-shirts, 'for a greener campus' as the slogan goes.

The 5 x 5 kilometres relay was finished off with free beer and sausages. Click on the first picture and feel the atmosphere.

Systems Biology expects big win in relay

For some the DHL Relay race is just for fun: It’s about spending time with colleagues, barbequing, and making-merry. However, for those at the Section of Systems Biology Research at the Centre of Healthy Aging it’s a race to win.

Micheal Taulo Lund, PhD student in Systems Biology, hopes to make the cut for his lab’s team, but it isn’t easy. With a lab full of marathon runners, triathletes and other sports elites, not everyone can be chosen for the five person relay team.

2,100 university employees ready to race

Beginning 29 August approximately 2,100 employees from the University of Copenhagen will challenge other teams in the DHL Relay race. The event will take place over the course of five days.

This year over 125,000 people are registered to race in the annual event that has taken place since 1983. And it is not just runners from the university that will go head to head; teams from private organisations and companies in Copenhagen are also competitors in the relay event.
