The new Niels Bohr Science Park will be finished in 2014-2015 corresponding to the centennial of two seminal articles of physicist Niels Bohr, introducing the Nuclear Age.

Five subject areas will have their address there: physics, chemistry, computer science, science education and mathematics, a total of 3-4.000 students and 800 researchers, PhD students and a large administration.

The winning design is from Christensen and co. / Vilhelm Lauritzen, with Rambøll DK as lead advisor. The pictures are from Christensen and co.

New futuristic science structure unveiled

Glass facades with distorted angles, large common spaces, and a walkbridge, called a Spanish rambla, over the Jagtvej road throughfare. Just a few of the new elements in the massive new University of Copenhagen construction project, the new Niels Bohr Science Park.

The winners of the architectural competition presented the sketches and drawings last week.

The whole edifice will be finished in 2014-2015 corresponding to the centennial of three seminal articles of physicist Niels Bohr, introducing the Nuclear Age.

Budget shock: Science park needs extra DKK 265m

A prestigious new university building, the Niels Bohr Science Park, will now have a more than DKK 1.5 billion price tag. This is after a further DKK 265 million have been calculated by the construction's steering group. The 21 per cent increase has been reported by the Science Faculty Newsletter.

The Niels Bohr Science Park buildings have been designed by Rambøll.

DKK 3 to 3.5 million will now be invested in consultancy fees to find alternative solutions to technical and functional problems, in order to reduce the cost overrun, the newsletter reports.

Are we alone in the universe?

The speaker will be Mitch Campbell, a Canadian who has been living in Denmark for four years.

This year he has taken two years off from teaching to pursue his passion for space and is studying at the Niels Bohr Institute. With this in mind, he has prepared a talk about Astrobiology - trying to answer some of the most fundamental questions, such as: 'Are we alone in the Universe?' The presentation is intended for the general public, and no prior knowledge about science is needed.

Gallery: International Fascination of Plants Day

International Fascination of Plants Day gave visitors unprecedented access to the many collections and projects in the University's gardens and greenhouses in Frederiksberg. Visitors were able to participate in guided tours of the outside gardens and themed talks by University staff. Open hours in the greenhouses, information booths and a plant sale rounded out the experience. Check out our photos from the plant collection, and highlights of the day in our gallery. See the physics revue pictures here

FysikRevy, as it’s called in Danish, is a long-loved tradition at Physics including wild performances and a huge after party.

It's THE annual event of the year at Physics and it took place this Saturday. A University Post photographer was there to document the vivid mayhem.

Annual physics revue bash will be a circus

Who says scientists don’t know how to have fun? This Friday and Saturday, 4 and 5 May, sixty physics students from the Niels Bohr Institute at the University will challenge this notion by inviting audience members and party goers to FysikRevy, an all-out bash that celebrates student life at the Institute.

The show has been an annual and well-loved tradition since 1989, along with a host of other revues that will also kick off this spring including mathematics, molecular biomedicine and computer science.

Gallery: Spiders at the Zoological Museum

From 24 April until 23 December, the Zoological Museum will host a new exhibit on spiders. Our Danish correspondent went to check out the sites and thrills of the exhibition while documenting the multitude of installations on offer.

The exhibit of course, features the real live versions of the animals, including the world's largest spider, but also allows visitors to see artistic representations of these eight-legged creatures.

More information about the exhibit can also be found in our article.

New Social Science extension on the way

The construction site on the edge of the Faculty of Social Sciences might not look too appealing, but the campus is expecting to benefit from a new build in 2013.

The new building will expand the campus with new teaching spaces for the growing number of University of Copenhagen students. It will also become the shared home for another set of very different pupils.

It will provide more space for a city-centre kindergarten, which was originally housed on the site, and is currently in a temporary location.

Gallery: New international students at Science

New international students from throughout the world were brought together for an orientation meeting at Frederiksberg campus, the new Science faculty. The temperature outside was minus 10 degrees Celsius, but less than 50 per cent of the students present at the meeting answered that this was the coldest weather they’d ever experienced. Nearly 100 students from Biology, Bachelor's level, filled the banquet hall at the Geo-centre of University of Copenhagen Monday last. A photographer from the Danish section of this site, Universitetsavisen, got permission to get snapshots of the nerve-racking event.
