University of Copenhagen just held its annual bash celebrating all the hotshot scientists, professors, scandals, students, and events of the year. The commemoration was kickstarted with a formal event at the Ceremonial Hall by Frue Plads. After the compulsory formalities the real party moved to Koncerthuset in DR-Byen. Here, people strode around in long gowns and tuxedoes, while light projections on the inside and outside of the building welcomed the many fancy guests. Danish singer-songwriter Tina Dickow entertained with her mellow guitar music. University Post also made an appearance as we went to check out the posh crowd!

Annual physics revue bash will be a circus

Who says scientists don’t know how to have fun? This Friday and Saturday, 4 and 5 May, sixty physics students from the Niels Bohr Institute at the University will challenge this notion by inviting audience members and party goers to FysikRevy, an all-out bash that celebrates student life at the Institute.

The show has been an annual and well-loved tradition since 1989, along with a host of other revues that will also kick off this spring including mathematics, molecular biomedicine and computer science.

Uni party of the year at CSS next Saturday

With over 6,000 people working and studying there, events at the Faculty of Social Sciences (CSS campus) are usually packed, and next Saturday 28 April the annual spring party promises to be one of the biggest.

Originally housing a municipal hospital, the old buildings of CSS in Copenhagen will be filled with a variety of parties. Each department at CSS will host their own bar, drinks, music and events. Guests can cruise and crawl from bar to bar as they please.

Friday night Greek gods Apollo and Athene will be projected onto the DR Concert hall (Koncerthuset) in Amager. This is according to the design team at the University of Copenhagen.

They have been granted an opportunity to graphically decorate the façade of the big blue building for this year’s Commemoration. Apart from the two Greek gods the uni logo and Latin motto will adorn the building.

Black Diamond: No repeat of party chaos

Last year, what was supposed to be happy 'Black Diamond' Royal Library event ended in acrimony, disappointment for hundreds if not thousands of students, and a subsequent war of words on these pages.

Depending on whether you believe the organisers' or witnesses' estimates, between 600 and 2,000 students waited to enter the party.

Thousands of students are expected to party again this year at the Royal Library on 16 September, as the Black Diamond opens its doors for the third annual Students Only! Fest.

German student fights for right to partyyyyy

Most students appreciate a cheap drink and a place to hook up with new friends. But is it the university’s job to promote this? Yes, says Robin Stegemann, a student from Germany. As the founder of the non-profit organization PulsEvents, he is not only fighting for his right to party but for the University’s official support.

New Year’s Eve to draw students together

Far away from home, Christmas and New Year's Eve can be lonely. Many international students are far from home, with money or travel issues preventing them from going back to celebrate.

But staying alone at the dorm New Year’s Eve is just too depressing.

Help is at hand. A group of international students and mentors have decided to meet up. And they call on others who otherwise have nowhere to go, to join them.

All alone at Christmas

For countries in the Western world, Christmas is the most important family holiday. But many international students are far from home, with no opportunity to go back to celebrate.

Carlos Mauricio Castaño Díaz, in short - Mauro, is one of them. He has never been so far away from his family at this time of year before. And everything about this Christmas is different.

»Usually there are about fifteen to twenty people at my house on Christmas Eve and we sit around the Christmas tree«, Mauro says.

K3 club: Party flop was not our fault

The blame should be placed squarely on the shoulders of the electricity company and no-one else.

This is the reaction of the event organiser K3 to the failed Erasmus Student Network party Friday, in an e-mail to the University Post. The event organiser does not comment on safety issues, the aggressive behaviour of bouncers, nor subsequent threats by students to ESN organisers in the e-mail.

Party fiasco could have been a death trap

A hyped up and widely promoted student party organised by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) at K-3 bar on Friday 3 December was not only a flop. It was a flop that raises serious safety concerns, say some of the involved students.

The bar was plunged into darkness by a power cut, and students were expected to share the floor with five other large party groups, witnesses say to the University Post.
