Olympic hopes has British student Anneka Hastings training up to 20 hours a week in a sports centre in Holte

She follows a programme in human biology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, something that she has always »really wanted to study,« she says.

»I’m focussing a lot on volleyball these days because of the upcoming Olympics. But I will eventually return to research,« she vows.

A full time Master’s course in one of the elite programmes at the University of Copenhagen can be tough enough. But for one student, there is more.

Anneka Hastings is packing in 10-20 hours of training, and hoping to qualify for the British national volleyball team at the upcoming London Olympics.

Doped bike rider now gears up his medical career

When he propels his mountain bike over roots and through ditches in the forest, Peter Riis Andersen is no longer up at the front of the pack.

He no longer has a license to race the elite races, and only rides for fun.

Denmark has sported several icons of mountain bike racing, and Peter Riis used to be one of them. But back in 2008, for the second time on his way to the Olympic Games, a test revealed he had been using the performance-enhancing drug EPO.

Scottish international student Anneka Hastings will now be playing in the Danish volleyball finals. This is clear after her team Holte beat Fortuna Odense Tuesday. In the finals this April, Holte will face Brøndby.

With her 20 hour-a-week training and Olympic ambitions, Anneka has gained a following of fans among the community of international students at the University of Copenhagen.

Gallery: International Fascination of Plants Day

International Fascination of Plants Day gave visitors unprecedented access to the many collections and projects in the University's gardens and greenhouses in Frederiksberg. Visitors were able to participate in guided tours of the outside gardens and themed talks by University staff. Open hours in the greenhouses, information booths and a plant sale rounded out the experience. Check out our photos from the plant collection, and highlights of the day in our gallery.
