Tough times ahead for the University Post and its Danish sister Universitetsavisen. Chief editor explains why, how, and where the newspaper and websites have to cut back

The grant for the Danish and English media of the University of Copenhagen, Universitetsavisen and University Post, has been cut back by DKK 1 million, or 20 per cent, to DKK 4 million. This has been announced by chief editor of the Universitetsavisen/University Post Richard Bisgaard, in an open letter to the readers , first published in the newspaper version of the Danish Universitetsavisen.

The number of editions of the printed newspaper will be cut back from 15 to nine. The English-language Universitypost.dk and the Danish website, which were both launched 1 September, have thereby been forced to cut costs before they have even started.

The new budget restrictions will mean fewer articles and less coverage, he says.

For fish, it is best to have no boss

Insects and fish have an uncanny ability to navigate in groups. And they do this with no clear leadership

Editorial: Danish, what's the point?

Learning Danish may not be worth the time and effort, argues the editor of the University Post. And if you try anyway, Danes should be honoured with your few polite phrases
