35 full-time staff are to lose their jobs at the Faculty of Humanities in 2011.
This is according to faculty Dean, Kirsten Refsing, who made the announcement at a Faculty Collaboration Committee (FSU) meeting Friday 12 November.
Next year, the Faculty will have a shortfall of around DKK 15 million, and the coming job cuts will make up the deficit, writes Refsing in a circular to employees at the faculty
»As yet, it is undecided which tasks will be discontinued, or given a lower priority, and which jobs will be cut,« writes the Dean.
FSU will hold meetings on 19 November and 26 November to decide on a schedule for the dismissal process and to discuss the criteria for who will be fired.
There will be an additional dialogue meeting about the budget at the Faculty on 29 November.

This is a shame for Denmark. Isn't is supposed to be one of the most developed country in the world? But developed in what? technology and business? I do not agree in this notion of being developed. A developed country is one with a self-aware and democratic society. The more they will be cutting from Humanities and Social Sciences the closer we are heading towards a society with individuals that are less capable of reflecting in their own condition and with less resistance against an advanced technologically but absolutist world. We need philosophy, literature, language and media studies more than we need ipods, or wars in Iraq, and the moment we realise this we can start changing the situation!
Summer is right around the corner and so are the many festivals that sweeten this time of year. The University Post brings you 10 festivals worth looking forward to while you finish off the semester’s last exams
