New poll shows that half of University of Copenhagen´s academic staff would like to see Rector Ralf Hemmingsen step down

by Johanne Wenstrup

One in two people working at the University of Copenhagen feel that Ralf Hemmingsen should resign after the Penkowa débâcle. This is according to a newly published poll from Berlingske Research.

1049 researchers at University of Copenhagen took part in the poll. Only one in five of them still support the university’s management, while half of them would like to see its rector step down.

»The numbers and the reactions make a powerful impression on me,« said Ralf Hemmingsen to Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende.

Rector should reconsider his position

It is first and foremost the Penkowa-scandal that has made management unpopular, writes Danish daily Berlingske.

Elisabeth Bock, a professor at the Panum Institute, has been one of the toughest critics of Ralf Hemmingsen’s role in the Penkowa case.

»Ralf Hemmingsen should reconsider his position when half the scientific staff at University of Copenhagen feel that he should leave,« she says to berlingske.dk.
