Dutch students took haven from the Danish crowds at The Globe during the Holland - Denmark soccer showdown

by Alison Withers

It should have been an athletic massacre, and it was.

At 13:30 Monday, Danish and Dutch students alike paused their daily business to turn their attention to a most serious matter: World Cup Football.

The much-anticipated Denmark-Holland clash was screened at various public locations across town.

Danes, decked out in red-and-white hats, jerseys, and flags set up camp at Kvæsthusbroen, while many Dutch exchange students, clad in florescent orange, took haven from the Danish crowds at The Globe, an Irish pub in the city centre.

According to the Dutch, the bookies and even some of the more level-headed Danish analysts, the match proceeded as expected: Holland came away 2-0.
