The start of last years race
With space for 2,500 university staff reserved, the friendly competiton is one of the largest social events of the year, and the largest running race in northern Europe. Everyone can take part

With shiny new T-shirts, drinks and plenty of hot-dogs the event takes place in Fælledparken, Nørrebrø, Friday 31 August. 80 teams of five have already signed up. Last year, 2,140 participants ran in UCPH shirts and this year aims to break that record.

For more details - and the sign up link- log on to KUnet and visit this link.

UCPH runners will wear a new, specially designed T-shirt that will make them easy to spot in the large park and, as usual, UCPH will offer refreshments to the hungry, and organic beer, juice, cocoa and mineral water to the thirsty.

Create your own team!

As well as the overall winners (and losers) there are special prizes for the fastest UCPH team. Last year the men's award was taken by runners from the institute of medical chemistry in one hour 37 minutes and the women's by members of the UCPH HIV programme.

The DHL event also marks an annual friendly competition between the English-language newsroom University Post ('Central campus' fastest team in 2011') and the Danish newsroom Uniavisen (winners of nothing).

Any member of staff can put together a team of five people and enter the run, however spaces are limited so act fast.

Over the last few years, the University of Copenhagen has gotten smaller. But it has accepted a record amount of students and hired more staff. Students and staff complain, but management argues that less space doesn't equal worse conditions
